Artist Statement

My videographic work has always been intimately linked to poetry. For the ancient Greeks, creative activity was a fusion of poetry and action. Similarly, my creative process – of video making and the poetic experience – is based on a relational exchange. I am interested in how text and image exist on the same plane, and how they interact to create new symbols, icons and meanings. Formatting is of particular interest for me, as format shapes the world around us and transforms it in a multitude of ways. The rapport between content and container, materiality and immateriality are the baseline of any of my inquiries.

 

Mon travail vidéographique a toujours été lié à la poésie. Le processus créatif se fonde sur l’échange continuel entre l’expérience poétique et l’état audiovisuel du monde. Les relations texte-images, la compression et l’extension du temps et de l’espace contribuent à dire et à reconnaître un certain état du monde à un certain moment. La théorie de la « formativité » m’intéresse tout particulièrement. Le format façonne et transforme le monde où nous habitons. Le rapport entre le contenant et le contenu, entre la matérialité et l’immatérialité sont les points de références de mon questionnement.

Daniel H. Dugas

Artiste numérique, poète et musicien, Daniel H. Dugas a participé à des expositions individuelles et de groupe ainsi qu’à plusieurs festivals et événements de poésie en Amérique du Nord, en Europe, au Mexique et en Australie. Son treizième recueil de poésie « émoji, etc. » / « emoji, etc. » vient de paraître aux Éditions Basic Bruegel.

Daniel H. Dugas is a poet, musician, and videographer. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions as well as festivals and literary events in North America, Europe, Mexico, and Australia. His thirteenth book of poetry, 'émoji, etc.' / 'emoji, etc.' has been published by the Éditions Basic Bruegel Editions.
