Ancrages (Moncton)

Moncton, February 15 2017 – An updated version of Artothèque – Survol de l’art contemporain en Acadie is now available at the following address: www.ArtothequeAcadie.ca. In order to respond to technological advances since the first launch of Artothèque in 2008, the site has been transferred to a new platform. During this process, more recent HTML5 accessibility standards have been integrated.

Revisit 20 visual artists and rediscover the wealth of artistic expression in Acadia. Image galleries and video interviews present the life, works and approach of the following contemporary artists: Marie Hélène Allain, Jacques Arseneault, Gerald Beaulieu, Jennifer Bélanger, Paul Édouard Bourque, Herménégilde Chiasson, Lionel Cormier, Francis Coutellier, Daniel Dugas, Guy Duguay, Yvon Gallant, François Gaudet, André Lapointe, Pierre Noël LeBlanc, Jacques Martin, Raymond Martin, Ghislaine McLaughlin, Claude Roussel, Roméo Savoie and Anne-Marie Sirois.

L’Artothèque was created with the support of Heritage Canada (PCH) through the Virtual Museums Canada initiative. The technical update is equally supported by PCH and has been realized by Université de Moncton’s Groupe des technologies de l’apprentissage.

Storytelling through audio – These 12 soundworks, featuring the voices of Rebecca Rideout and Mark McPhee, were inspired by geographic locations within the Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve and surrounding regions of South Florida. Points of departure include evidence of human passage and its effect on the river of grass, tales of man versus nature and nature versus exotic. Conversations with local inhabitants, historical research and onsite recording have contributed to the atmosphere of these works.

* Moncton, January 21 2014 – From January 29 to March 30, the Louise-and-Reuben-Cohen Art Gallery will present an exhibition titled 50//50//50, arguably the most important exhibition of Acadian art in a professional context. The event is a celebration and a return on fifty years of visual art instruction at Université de Moncton. As of 1963, Claude Roussel, to whom this exhibition is dedicated, taught the first academic courses in this field. This endeavor eventually lead to the foundation of the Fine Arts department in 1972 where all of the artists presented in this exhibition have been instructed.

Featuring some of Australia’s most prominent voices alongside new and emerging poets, Poems 2013 sketches an overview of contemporary Australian poetry that is wry, thoughtful and frequently moving. Launched in 2012, the Members’ Anthology has continued to showcase our members’ poetry from the year gone by. To celebrate the achievements of our members, a portion of the anthology this year was given over to previously published and award-winning poetry, which will sit alongside new voices and undiscovered gems. The Anthology will be available first as a beautiful print publication, and later, as an e book. In 2013 the editors of the Anthology were Chris Wallace-Crabbe, Dennis Haskell, and Jessica Friedmann
